Where did the summer go??
I have to apologize for my lack of update. This summer has been a whirlwind of traveling for both Andy and me. Rest assured that all is well with the Shreveport Horner clan. We have settled into the house, and we are very very happy here. There have been some fairly typical old house issues that we have had to deal with. The plumbing has flooded twice (which meant that the pregnant lady couldn't use the bathroom), the electrical had to be changed from fuses to breakers (which resulted in a couple of days without AC), and then, there was the day that a 2,000 pound limb fell on the house... Yeah that was not a good day. Even with all of that, this move really has been an excellent decision. We love having the space and the privacy, although I do miss the free music lessons. The puppies love the yard. I throw peanuts out in the yard for the squirrels and Riley LOVES to chase them off. In fact, Riley spends his days on a dog bed in front of the french doors watching for those furry infiltrators and Rosie is just happy to be in or near a lap.
In pregnancy related news, Chris and I have been doing really well. In fact, he might be a little too happy in the mama oven. At our 28 week appointment the doctor told us that Chris was measuring just over two weeks ahead. Since then he has consistently measured in the 90th percentile. My doctors were briefly concerned about the possibility of gestational diabetes, but apparently I just grow big babies. As of last week, the plan is to induce labor between 38 and 39 weeks (I am currently 34 & 1/2 weeks), which puts his arrival somewhere between October 6th and October 13th. I am so very excited to meet this little man.
My nearest and dearest threw me an amazing baby shower at the end of July. I had so much fun and Chris and I were well and truly showered with so many incredibly generous gifts. Chris is going to be the world's best dressed baby and he has every type of seat/bouncer/jumper/stroller than we could possibly need even if we were having 10 of him. Andy and I are lucky to have so many people in our lives that are happy and excited to be a part of the adventure that we are about to being. Here are a few pictures from my shower.
Over Labor Day weekend, my parents came to Shreveport and we all worked very very hard to get the nursery ready. Andy and I had painted the walls already, but nothing else had been done. Now, everything is finished and in my biased opinion, I have the most adorable nursery in the entire world. However, I will let you judge for yourself. Here are some pictures.
So, I think that is most of what you have missed since my last post. If you have questions or want any other type of update, let me know.

It's a Boy!
I am sure that most of you know this already, but Baby H is a boy!! Andy and I are so very excited. I have felt all along that this baby would be a boy, but Andy was totally convinced that we were having a girl. We have had a bet going since we found out that we were pregnant. After the ultrasound tech left the room, Andy looked at me and said, "I have never been so happy to lose a bet." I guess we know who has been hoping for a boy, huh? I LOVE being right! It is so satisfying. Actually, I think that we were both hoping for a boy. I am not sure why, but I have always wanted a boy first. I think that it is going to be an amazing adventure.
Baby H's name will be Christopher Wallace Horner. Christopher after both grandfathers. My father is Chris Owens and Andy's is Peter Christopher. Wallace is after Andy's maternal grandfather, Dale Elmo Wallace. I have always loved family names. I think it gives a person a sense of his or her own history. I figure if he decides to be a football player, he can be Chris Horner, if he decides to be a doctor he can be Christopher W. Horner, and if he decided to be a lawyer he can be C. Wallace Horner. :) For now, I am calling him Baby Christopher or Baby Chris.
Here are the pictures from the ultrasound, however they are not very clear. I have two different OBs, high-risk and regular. I saw the high-risk last week and his ultrasound machine is not nearly as good as my regular OB's. We go see her on Tuesday, so hopefully some better pictures are coming soon.

Different Rules for Babies
As most of you probably know, Andy and I moved into an apartment when we moved to Shreveport. We sold our lovely house in College Station and made the smart decision to downsize (financially) during our time in Shreveport. We did quite a bit of looking at apartments and found a very large three bedroom, at a nice complex, in a good area. We are up to our gills in stuff, but the apartment is 100% fine. Guess what...I hate it.
This is probably not news to any of you. If you have talked to me since I moved into the apartment last June, I have most likely expressed my displeasure. The neighbors above us have two pre-teenage kids and one 3-4 year old. I believe that the game they play all evening every evening is called "Elephant Stampede". Occasionally they mix it up and play Wii gymnastics or indoor, full-contact, basketball. Then we have the next-door neighbor. She is a single mother with two teenage girls and one boy that is probably 11 or so. As any of you who have siblings can remember, the shouting matches that those three get into are spectacular; the language gets particularly colorful when mom is not home. Thankfully, when they are not fighting, they are generous enough to help me keep up with the current top 100 R&B and rap songs, by turning it up loud enough that I can enjoy it too. I would hate to lose my street cred.
Beyond the neighbors, I miss the freedom of having a house. I miss the yard and I miss the feeling of being separate from the rest of the world when I walk in my own front door. Knowing that I have been unhappy at Island Park, Andy, the level-headed and deliberate one in this relationship, has become a broken record of soothing comments such as, "We will get a house next time we get transferred", "It isn't for much longer", "They have to go to bed soon" and "Please don't bang on the ceiling with a broom. That guy and I leave as the same time".
When Andy receives a transfer letter, the company packs, moves, and unpacks us, but we are on our own for in town moving. The thought of packing and moving everything ourselves was so overwhelming that we were determined to stick it out despite the herd of water buffalo upstairs. So, in the apartment Andy and I have stayed. Which is the smart and rational decision of two adults. Then we found out that we are pregnant.....
Turns out that the mere idea of this baby has turned us completely upside down and we have thrown out all of those well reasoned arguments. Here are some pictures of the new rental house. It is a 3/2 in the South Highland area of Shreveport. One month and we move in. We are very excited about all the space!!!

Ultrasound #2
Here are the pics from ultrasound number 2. These were taken at 12 weeks. The baby was moving all over the place during this ultrasound. It looked like he/she was doing the back stroke and even did a flip while we were watching.
This picture is of the baby lying on his/her side and looking out at us. The head is all the way to the left.
This one captured the baby butt up, with the head pointing down.
And here is a shot of the world's cutest little feet.
And again...here are Uncle Brent's additions!!
Baby H as a clown
And my personal favorite...Baby H as an elephant!
Our next ultrasound is scheduled for May 3rd. Fingers crossed that the baby cooperates and shows us if we can expect Little Girl Horner or Little Boy Horner. The suspense is killing me!!
Ultrasound #1
This is a picture from our first ultrasound! I was about 7 & 1/2 weeks at the time.
And here are the edits that Uncle Brent made to the first ultrasound!Baby H as a boy
Baby H's as a girl
Baby H as an astronaut
Baby H as a pirate
Baby H as a drag queen
Baby H as Teddy Roosevelt
Baby H - Winning!
And Baby H's first family photo
Welcome!
Hello Everyone! I have decided to create this blog in an effort to share what is going on with Andy and me (and Baby H of course) in Shreveport. I am going to try really, really hard to update this with pictures of important moments in our lives. Especially baby pictures once the little one arrives. For now, please be patient with me as I figure this whole blogging thing out.
